We’ve compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions to help you find quick answers and better understand what the North Carolina Forward Party is all about.

  • We’re a diverse coalition of North Carolinians—former Democrats, Republicans, and independents—who came together in 2022 to build a better political future. We believe in moving past the dysfunction and division of our current system by focusing on solutions, not sides.

  • Yes, we’re part of the national Forward Party network, but we operate with autonomy to focus on the unique needs and challenges of North Carolina. Our priorities are shaped by our local communities.

  • We are both. The Forward Party is a national movement, and in North Carolina, we're working to gain official recognition as a political party to give voters more real choices at the ballot box.

  • We stand for putting people over partisanship. That means supporting leaders who listen, policies that work, and a government that puts problem-solving ahead of political theater. Our values are grounded in the Constitution, civic duty and responsibility, data and evidence, bottom-up solutions, and a belief that every voice matters.

  • We’re not built around ideology—we’re built around innovation, collaboration, and consensus. We believe the two-party system isn’t serving North Carolinians, and we’re offering a real alternative: a community that puts compromise ahead of party loyalty.

  • Our priorities evolve based on what North Carolinians tell us they need. We use a data-driven, community-based approach called the FWD Formula to identify policy solutions that reflect broad consensus and stay within sensible guardrails.

Right now, our top priorities—based on the FWD Formula—are election reform (like ranked choice voting and independent redistricting) and K–12 education (including how to balance public school funding with school choice options).

Currently, healthcare is under active review through the FWD Formula process, and our Policy Committee is researching the issue of hog waste independently, as this is a significant issue unique to our state.

  • We support candidates who share our commitment to cooperation, accountability, and putting people first—no matter what party they used to be part of. If you’re focused on fixing problems, not fighting culture wars, we’re with you.

  • We’re funded by grassroots supporters—not big corporate PACs. Every dollar we raise goes toward ballot access, building infrastructure, engaging communities, and supporting candidates who align with our mission.

  • We need people like you to help us build something new. You can sign up to volunteer, attend local events, join one of our volunteer teams, or help us gather the signatures we need to become an official party.
