Commissioner Nick Sliwinski, Wake Forest Board of Commissioners
Background
Nick Sliwinski has called Wake Forest home for well over a decade. Originally from Western Pennsylvania, Nick moved to Wake Forest in 2014 and has since raised his family in the community he now serves. Deeply invested in local life, he helped found a new church, volunteered extensively, and became actively engaged in civic and community initiatives. Sliwinski was originally elected to the Wake Forest Board of Commissioners in 2021 with nearly 25% of the total vote, and served with distinction in his first term. During his tenure, he has supported local businesses through active involvement with the Chamber of Commerce, working with the Northeast Community Coalition and spearheading the creation of the town’s annual Mental Wellness Fair. After an unsuccessful re-election bid, Sliwinski was recently appointed by other Board members to serve a second term as a result of a vacancy left by the newly elected mayor.
Moving His Community Further Forward
Commissioner Nick Sliwinski believes leadership means making decisions with constituents — not just for them. He is committed to continuing to serve the Town of Wake Forest with consistency, collaboration, and integrity. Over the past four years, Wake Forest residents have made clear their priorities for thoughtful growth and a strong quality of life. Nick is committed to carrying those priorities forward. He has demonstrated a willingness to put the town’s interests above partisan politics, building relationships across the community to ensure he can serve even more effectively in the years ahead. His focus remains simple: serve the people first and protect the character and future of Wake Forest.
Issues & Advocacy
The Forward Party understands that every municipality faces unique challenges, and Wake Forest is no exception. We’re proud to support Nick as a pragmatic, community-first leader who prioritizes collaboration over partisanship. His continued service on the Board of Commissioners will focus on:
- Sustainable Growth: Wake Forest must grow in a way that preserves its unique character. Nick supports balancing residential and commercial development while listening closely to residents about what affordable housing and quality of life mean to them. Growth should reflect the community’s voice and long-term vision.
- Housing Affordability: Nick remains committed to implementing Wake Forest’s Housing Affordability Plan and ensuring consistent funding for initiatives that make housing more available and attainable for residents across income levels.
- Transportation Infrastructure: Nick prioritizes improving the roads and infrastructure under local control while responsibly stewarding taxpayer dollars. He continues to advocate with State legislators and NCDOT to accelerate long-overdue projects such as Capital Boulevard and Rodgers Road.
- Responsible Development Regulation: Nick supports the adoption of the updated Unified Development Ordinance and believes municipalities must retain the tools necessary to manage growth effectively. Protecting local authority is essential to preventing unmitigated development that strains infrastructure and impacts quality of life.
