You can't get more local than Steve Morris. Born and raised in Kannapolis, Steve is a product of generations of Cabarrus County residents who have worked and lived in the county. Before running for Mayor, Steve spent 12 years as County Commissioner for Cabarrus.

Steve Morris brings a proven track record of delivering results to the table, not just promises. As Chairman, he skillfully navigated a decade of unprecedented growth for Cabarrus County, overseeing significant, practical developments that shaped the region. While in office as commissioner, Cabarrus will see over $3.5 billion in capital investment, including over $2 billion from pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly. He championed public safety and mental health initiatives, including new infrastructure like a courthouse and EMS headquarters, and the creation of the Stephen M. Morris Behavioral Health Center, which broke ground in 2024.

  • Strengthening Education & Workforce: He supported education by raising teacher salary supplements to the region's highest, expanding early college and workforce training, and serving on the RCCC Board of Trustees since 2012.
  • Smart Economic Growth: His efforts attracted 71 new companies and over 7,000 jobs, while advocating for balanced economic development and supporting the launch of the Cabarrus Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
  • Enhancing Quality of Life: Morris championed funding for new parks and green space restoration, expanded services at senior centers, and invested in essential community resources like youth programs and public libraries.
